Day 3- Potty Training Sucks

Today is Day 3 of the potty training.

Day 3 of camping out in the bathroom.
Day 3 of my butt aching.
Day 3 of Curious George 2 over and over and over.
Day 3 of accomplishing nothing but making my child cry, my house is out of control.
Day 3 of mommy frustration levels being through the roof.

Let me be upfront and say that it is not going well. (No need to be jealous you know who you are).

Pee has graced our toilet once… yesterday. It caused a freak out and now he won’t pee on the toilet again. He sits there and screams and holds it in until I get him down. For hours. Yesterday after our one successful pee I waited until I knew it was time and we sat there for a VERY long time. He screamed. I finally got him down. He peed. I admitted defeat. This may be a VERY long process…

Today he seems pretty okay with at least sitting on the potty, I think that is the only progress that has been made.

This is what we do while we sit, watch movies on the laptop. I think I’ve seen Curious George 2 at least 25 times in the last two days and I’m not exaggerating.

My little spot where I sit and crochet. I finally brought pillows in to sit on because my arse was killing me. Killing. It still is, but the pillows are helping. Though I am out of hemstitched material so I have no idea what to do now.

My trusty potty treat jar. These are for trying. I busted out some good treats when pee hit the toilet. He wants those bad now. He hasn’t figured out how to get them again.

Good thing is cute or I don’t know what I’d do.

So yeah, suggestions are welcome. I have basically no clue what I’m doing I’m just trying. So any ideas, tips, etc. would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I know for a fact that 2 out of my three boys were not potty-trained until well after they turned 3. Jason accomplished it at 2 because he and Jeremy went to grandma's house for a few days when Josh was born, and he came back magically trained. I guess some of us just don't have the training knack. I have no advice, other than maybe to send T-Man to great-grandma McGregor for a few days...

I'm really proud of you for keeping a special treat just for peeing in the toilet. Whatever that treat is, make sure he NEVER EVER gets it at any other time of the day but to pee. Honestly, when I was potty training the kids with autism I used to work with (and these kids were severe), I took an actual picture of pee in the toilet and poop in the toilet and pasted them on a paper on the wall opposite the toilet with an arrow pointing toward a picture of the special treat. Let's say it is m&m's or something. So, when on the toilet the child could see this picture on the wall and every time he sat on the toilet I'd point to the pee/poop toilet picture and say "when you pee or poop in the toilet" and then point to the m&m picure, "you get m&ms". That visual helped those kids a lot. Also give him a sippy cup of juice/water/milk to drink while on the toilet. It sounds like you are doing a great job!

I have potty trained one and haven't even tried with the second. Although, she pees in the toilet randomly on her own and could be.. I just haven't gotten myself there yet. So, here's my opinion. Maybe he's not ready? Kylie wasn't potty trained until after she turned three. It was pretty easy once she decided she wanted to do it. I get not wanting to have two in diapers, trust me that. It just may take a bit longer. I don't know. I am not a seasoned veteran. All kids do things at their own pace. There is no race. I know there are lots of kids trained at 12-18 months. I just don't care! My kids will pee in the potty when they are ready! Good luck! PS I can't believe you are sitting on the floor while pregnant. Pull up a chair, or something! Do you want the little pink chair? It's really not too bad to sit in!

When my children were very little, a dear friend (mother of three teenage boys) told me to wait until they were 3. She said by three they are old enough to "get it" and it is faster and less stressful. Those of my children that I waited until they were 3 were LOTS easier than those I tried at younger ages. There free advice worth what you paid for it. Love you.
